Break liya tha… game nahi chhoda.

न जातु कामः कामानामुपभोगेन शाम्यति ।
हविषा कृष्णवर्त्मेव भूय एवाभिवर्धते ॥

Desire is never satisfied by fulfilling it; it only grows stronger—like fire that increases when fed with ghee.

--King Yayati

OVERVIEW:-

Hey guys, I know it's been a while and I haven't wrote any of the blogs, even my website got shut off, and wasn't working, firstly I am so sorry for that, and yeah you going to know about this inside this blog, along with some story of mahabharat, that I can bet you haven't heard off, and you all will going to relate with this story, so stay tuned with this and let's get started…

CHAPTER 1 [The Setup of the Yayati's world):-

चन्द्रमा मनसो जातः

The Moon was born from the cosmic mind.

--Rig Veda

1. THE DYNASTY — CHANDRAVANSH (LUNAR LINEAGE)

Let's Start from the starting of everything, The Bigbang, with one blast the whole universe got created, now according to Hindu mythology brahma dev created this whole universe, with that he created the the sages (prajapatis), gods, and the human beings. He also created the saptarishi, and among that there was one rishi called Atri.

So Sage Atri, started doing intense tapasya of lord Bramha,(although he was his father, but agar ladko ko har cheez itni aasani se milne lagi, toh fir ladke kis baat ke), so he started doing intense tapasya his main motto was to get the son, which is as powerfull as his grandpa lord brahma, so his tapasya got so intense that it start affecting the cosmic balance, so to stop this the Trimurti appear, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiv. (according to Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana)

So, they 3 gave him 3 things

  1. Lord Brahma gave him Chandra (important to our story).
  2. Lord Vishnu gave him Dattatreya (a guy who got learned from 24 teachers in nature)
  3. lord Shiv gave him Rishi Durvasa.

Now in different Purana and mythological scripts there are different story, but will stick with this, for this time.

Now according to Vishnu and Bhagwat Purana, it says that Chandra started liking the Tara, so he abducts the Tara, who was the wife of lord Brihaspati. (definitely Chandra and Tara had sex, during that time), so this lead to the conflict between the gods, it took to a big war, and finally Tara returns to Brihaspati, but she was pregnant from Chandra.

Later on Tara Gives the birth of Buddha(Don't confuse him with gautam buddh, both are too much different), which was later accepted as the son of Chandra, and from here the Chandravanshi started.

Then Buddha marry with human girl name as a Ila, who gave birth ti Puruavas (first human king of Chandravansh) then from puruvas came Ayu, then From Ayu came Nahusha and from Nahusha came Yayati, and that's How the Chandravanshi established on earth.

Now if you think you have heard the name Chandravanshi, the you are correct it was in Mahabharat, cause later from same lineage, puru came, then bharath came, kuru came then as known pandavas and kuravas came.

Means Yayati was literally an ancestor of the Mahabharat war (You will understand this later in the blog that Why I said this so stay with the blog.)

2. Yayati's Father (side story but interesting)

Nahusha was not an ordinary king, he was one of the powerful king who took birth as human, and still defeat the Indra and became Indra(king of gods) himself, but later due to his arrogance, he forced sages to carry him, and later insulted them, eventually he got curse and fell from heaven).

3. Yayati's kingdom

Yayati ruled was in North India, associated with region near, Sarasvati river belt, and early Aryavarta region, his descendants later ruled: Kurukshetra region (Modern Haryana area).

4. Character setup for the story

There are total 5 characters in the story.

  1. Yayati — King of Chandravansh. Powerful, righteous—but humanly flawed.
  2. Devyani — Daughter of Shukracharya. Pride, Status and Emotional Intensity.
  3. Sharmishtha — Daughter of Asur King. Strong, Independent, have Desire and Rebellion.
  4. Shukracharya — Guru of Asuras. One of the most powerful sages, known for his knowledge of resurrection (MritSanjivani). Have Authority and Represent Consequence.
  5. Puru — Youngest son. Represent Sacrifice and Dharma.

5 Time Context

There is no such fix time period or something, but this happens a long time before Mahabharata War, around the end of the Satya yuga. Which was ended near 3.8 Million years ago.

Chapter 2 The Beginning of the Fall :-

काम एष क्रोध एष रजोगुणसमुद्भवः

It is desire—and the anger that arises from it—that drives human conflict.

--Bhagavad Gita

1. Devayani & Sharmishtha

A long time ago there was girls Devayani and the Sharmishtha, Devayani was the Daughter of the Shukracharya and Sharmishtha was Daughter of Asur king(Vrishaparva). Both the 2 daughters were friends of each other from there childhood, as Shukracharya was the guru of the Asur's, so he use to reside in the palace of the Asur king, So Devayani grew up in the same royal environment as Sharmishtha, although there status was not equal, Devayani was of Brahmin lineage(High Spiritual Status) and Sharmishtha was princess(political power), but still instead of the imbalance relationship, those 2 were best est friend.

There was one issue with the Sharmishtha, that she use to angry easily, and Devayani was the one try to make her calm, (it's same like if you have seen the movie "Mujh se Shaadi krogi.)

One day, when they were around 16-17 yr old, they went to the forest, with there companions and start bathing in the pond, suddenly a strong wind blows (some stories says that this happened because of some divine interference), So because of that there cloths get mixed up, so by mistake , Sharmishtha(princess) wore devayani's clothes.

Now as you must have heard, " keeda sbke andar hota hai fir chahe kitna hi gareeb kyu na ho".

2. The Argument

As Sharmishtha Wore Devayani's dress, so Devayani reacts says: " You are a servant's daughter wearing my clothes." (this is not just cast insult--this is cast assertion, ego and humiliation.)

Although she said this as a joke, but Sharmishtha took this seriously, as she said to the princess, in front of all the friends and the servant.

So Sharmishtha reply with anger: "You live because my father supports your Father, You are nothing, just a piece of cun*,". Basically she was saying "Don't forget your place".

3. The Breaking point

So as the arguments were going on, on the way to the palace, the Sharmishtha became more angry and push Devayani into a well, then leaves here there. And left the place with all the friends and servants, and warn her friends that don't even dare to open your mouth.

4. Entry of Yayati

So Yayati was just passing through the forest, doing hunting/traveling common royal activity.

Suddenly he hears a voice, he rush towards the voice, as he was coming to the source of the voice, it was becoming more clear, some one especially a woman was asking for help.

So he finds that Devayani was inside the well, so he went into the wall, with one end of the rope tied on tree and another on his waist, and then extend his hand and then grab Devayani hands and pulls her out.

5. Devayani's Decision

After Being rescued by the Yayati, she says "Thank you for rescuing me, but now you have to marry me, else I will kill my self in the pond".

Context is like this, in the old times , if a man touch and unmarried woman it was consider as socially significant, so Sometimes girls go and touch the man whom they use to like to secure there marriage. (" what a mind-blowing thing this is no? We should bring these times back")

So basically what happened between Yayati and Devayani was not romance but assertion+survival+status

6. Involvement of Shukracharya

Devayani went back to the Shukracharya and tells everything. Shukracharya got Furious. Then in anger he went to the Asur king, and threatens him that I am leaving the kingdom.

This was huge for the Asuras because 1st He was the Guru of all the Asur, If he will not be there then who will teach them, and 2nd Without him, they will never gonna win against Dev, cause Asur will loose the power of Resurrection(MritSanjivani).

7. King's Response

Now the king scolded her daughter, and tries to stop Shukracharya from leaving, he tries to compensate, so he said that after the marriage of the Devayani and Yayati, his daughter will go as a attendant with Devayani, and will be working as her attendant for her whole life.

As a punishment, political compromise, symbol of submission, you Can Tell it as whatever you want.

You can see the tension here, the Former princess of Asur, ( A person from the lineage of Hiranyakashipu) now going to serve as servant to her former friend.

8. Condition

Acharya Shukracharya agrees to Devayani's Marriage with Yayati and Sharmishtha serving her daughter for whole life, but he put one strict condition, one strict rule.

"Yayati must never have relations with Sharmishtha."

But You know but, what they Says The Men will be Men.

Chapter 3 The Curse:-

धूमेनाव्रियते वह्निर्यथादर्शो मलेन च ।
यथोल्बेनावृतो गर्भस्तथा तेनेदमावृतम् ॥

Just as fire is covered by smoke, and a mirror by dust,
so is wisdom covered by desire.

--Bhagavad Gita

1. The Situation After Marriage

After the marriage, Devayani becomes the Queen, Yayati rules as king, and the Sharmishtha which was once a royal princess became her attendant.

So the decision took by the Asur king was not the solution of conflict but it was a suppression of the conflict, Devayani, Sharmishtha, Yayati. All 3 use to live in the same place, all 3 use to see each other daily.

So gradually the anger, jealousy, feeling of revenge etc… start growing and piling inside the Sharmishtha, she in somewhat way started doing planning against the Devayani.

One day when Devayani went to Shukracharya, Sharmishtha went to the Yayati, and started arguments like

"I am also of royal birth."
"Why should I remain childless?"
"Give me a child."

She was crying sobbing in front of the King, although this was not a romance this was identity reclaim, desire for legacy.

Yayati knows that there are strict condition by Shukracharya. This is forbidden.

But Desire Overrides the Judgment, they went into a joy ride.

2. The Secret Relationship

They Start meeting each other in secrecy, there relationship continues, she even got pregnant, children were born, this was not just one night stand, or like one time mistake, it becomes a pattern. It becomes a extra marital affair.

In some text it's return that Sharmishtha gave birth to sons, in which one was puru (do remember this name), The very lineage of Mahabharata is born from this broken condition.

3. Expose

One Day, Devayani went to the park, with there children, and saw that some more children were playing there, and she notices the resemblance with the king and the Sharmishtha, She questioned her, but the truth came out.

4. The Confrontation

Devayani got Furious, cause this was not just betrayal, it was the violation of truth, breaking of father's condition, and the repetition of past humiliation, This was not acceptable by any of the woman that her husband, is doing the extra marital affairs. Which is If I see now a days so conman.

From the extra marital affair I remember an incident:( once I was coming from the office through the Bangalore metro, so there was one woman sitting there, she was talking to a guy, that let's go on a trip, to some where, then we will stay there at night, then suddenly she got another call, and it was from her husband, so she picked that up, holding that other person call, and says "why are you calling me again and again, stop disturbing me , I am coming home only, I am in the metro, and also I am going on a trip with the office team tomorrow, and will be there 2 days, it will be in forest camping, so network will not be there." and she hung up her husband call, then get back to the other person, she said, that " I hate my husband, as much as u hate your wife, we can't leave them but we can't live with them, also I said my husband that I am going on a trip, in same way you also tell you wife, so that if they both by any chance contact with each other, there will be no issue, tell our friends too" I was like damnnnn WTF!!!!!) End of the story

Now let's get back to the topic.

5. The Curse

Devayani goes back to the Shukracharya and tell everything to him, he became so angry, that he directly went to the king and gave him a curse that "you will become older instantly, you will loose all your stamina, and power to make more love".

This was more brutal, cause this was not death or exile, it was loss of youth, which was exactly Yayati valued most at the point.

But what else can be happened, "He Knew the rule… and Still broke it".

Chapter 4 The UNUSUAL OFFER:

न कर्मणामनारम्भान्नैष्कर्म्यं पुरुषोऽश्नुते

One cannot escape the consequences of actions by simply avoiding them.

--Bhagavad Gita

1. The Immediate Impact of the Curse

The Moment Shukracharya Curses, to Yayati, he becomes, Physically weak, aged, and exhausted, but here is the catch his body ages but his desired don't

This mismatch creates Desperation.

2. One more Chance

In the Era of Mahabharata, There is the chances of the modification or redirection of the curses and boons, like if you heard the story of Maharajah Bharat and shakuntala.

So he went back to the Shukracharya and pleads, that think about her daughter too, I had done a big mistake, please take this curse back etc… just brabbling and all, so that he can have some more wife and can do some more rounds.

Shukracharya said that I can't take the curse back. But there is the option that if anyone is willingly to give their youth to you, and take your old age, then it is possible you will get your youth.

But there is the crucial rule. It should not be forced, must not get stolen, they should give you willingly.

3. The Test Begins

Yayati Goes back to his sons, Main sons were Yadu, Turvasu, Druhyu, Anu and puru.

He asked everyone of them each of them except 1 said no to him, cause this was not simple thing, it was the youth they have to give, youth means power, pleasure, life and old age means, weakness, limitation this was not small task.

This is asking someone to give up their prime life.

So like reason was very simple: They value their own life, They don't want suffering, They don't see why they should pay for father's mistake.

And If I see this, no one was wrong here.

4. Acceptance of unusual offer

As I said, there was 1 exception who accepted the father unusual offer was the youngest son of Yayati and Sharmishtha, Puru.

Puru was one of the brightest mind, most loyal person of this whole lineage, he understand the duty towards his father, he accept the responsibilities, there was no ego, and he was one of the greatest worshiper of lord Shiva.

From this Worshiping of Lord Shiv I remember one story of Ramayana, which was return in some other tradition not by valmiki but it's there:( So what happened basically Before marching towards Lanka, Rama decided to worship Shiva to seek blessings for the war ahead. According to certain later traditions and temple lore associated with Ramanathaswamy Temple, a proper ritual required a learned Brahmin who was also a devoted follower of Shiva. But there was no such priest available nearby. So, Jambavan was sent to find one. Ironically, the most qualified person was none other than Ravana himself—a great scholar, a Brahmin, and one of Shiva's most ardent devotees. When invited, Ravana agreed and came to perform the ritual. He followed all the procedures with precision and devotion, helping Rama establish the Shivling before the very war in which they would stand as enemies. It's a moment that quietly reminds us—roles in life aren't always fixed; even your opponent can become essential to your purpose)

So let's get back to the topic, Puru didn't done this for his desire he acts from his dharma principle.

5. The Exchange happens

Puru became the old, and Yayati becomes young again, and just like that Yayati restarted his own life, he got the 2nd life.

"He finally got what he wanted—
but not what he needed."

Chapter 5 THE SECOND LIFE, THE REALIZATION:

यदा ते मोहकलिलं बुद्धिर्व्यतितरिष्यति ।
तदा गन्तासि निर्वेदं श्रोतव्यस्य श्रुतस्य च ॥

When your mind rises above confusion and illusion,
you will become indifferent to what you have heard and what you seek to hear.

Bhagavad Gita

1. The Second Life Begins

After Receiving youth from the Puru, Yayati was young again, Strong again, and yeah Free again, Basically nothing from the inside change, only his body did( he was as harami as earlier). So, as like all other person of this kaliyug, he dives back into the pleasure, desires, indulgence and control.

2. The Illusion of "This Time It Will Be Different"

Yayati, became full free, he was enjoying his life, he doesn't think he is repeating mistakes, he thinks that this time he will enjoy properly, this time he will be satisfied.

And so on…

This happens for a long time, he was getting married to on back to another woman, enjoying his life, madheera, sex etc… this was his life.

Not days, Not months but the Years of Indulgence.

3. The Psychological Shift

As the time went everything become repetitive for him, he was already a king of large kingdom, so like everything was so easy for him to get, at first everything was excitement, fulfillment and control. But slowly it becomes repetitive, boredom and emptiness.

This where the story becomes real.

Because: Nothing new was happening, just more of the same.

4. The Realization

Finally after all this Bha*Bos** he realize desire doesn't end by fulfilling it, instead it expands. Just like himself says: Fire doesn't go out with fuel, instead it grows.

He gradually understand that this world is not that satisfiable, instead getting that shanti is more better then this life full of attachment.

Like if all of you remember , when you were kids, you don't use to like places where it was no crowd or like no lights and all, or like you don't use to like the old songs the OG songs, instead you use to like DJ, Honey Singh songs but as you grows, now these mountain, place where no crowd, river, ocean, old melody songs of lata mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Asha Bhosle, and Mukesh. Gives you more peace then this materialistic world, far from job/relationship stress.

5. The Moment of Clarity

This was not emotional, This was cold realization, "That he got another life… and still nothing got changed."

6. The Final Decision

He then finally decided to give the youth back to the Puru, and he will accept the old age and will step away from the worldly life.

This was his real restart.

Not when he became young again but when he stopped chasing.

Sometimes it better to stop chasing, and sit still, and just enjoy the present moment.

Ha ha ha, I know many of you guys not going to listen but this is true, you are chasing for some person, and that person is chasing someone else, even someone is chasing for you, but no one is getting nothing but just a stress, and less will to live and enjoy this life.

Now if you see this lineage. You will see the pattern.

  1. the Chandra (Moon) — Its represent mind+emotion+desire, born from tapasya but becomes source of longing.
  2. To Nahusha (Father of Yayati) — Gain power become Indra himself, but loose everything because of Ego
  3. To Yayati (Main character of our story) — Knows the rule still breaks them to follows his desire.
  4. To Dhritarashtra — Blinded not just physically, but by attachment to his sons.
  5. To Duryodhana — Knows what is right still choose greed over dharma.
  6. And Finally to use, kaliyug people — we knows everything, we have read everything on news paper, saw serials on our history, read so many articles, and even some of you must have acted them as too… but still we learn nothing from that.

There is simple pattern:

Desire→ Ego→ Attachment→ Destruction

"Maybe it wasn't just their choices…
maybe it was a pattern they never stopped."

Chapter 6 Conclusion:-

Now the Conclusion part. Why did I stopped writing blogs you must be thinking like, he was getting load ton of views like and all in only 23 blogs he got more then 10K likes and 25k Views, many reasons were there, one was the money, for buying the domain, and renew it every year, it was getting to expensive for me, so I didn't had any option, so I took a break, but now as you have seen in the story there is no end of the desire, this is my desire I want to write the blogs, I can't stop my self, although in the time of AI, Reels, I know there will be less engagement, I am okay with it now, I am not behind views, and likes and all now, I am okay with everything. I just want to write blogs, put my thinking, my stories, even your stories ( if you will like to share with me), on these blogs. I am satisfied with this. Even still it's expensive it makes me satisfy. To see how much I progress in my life. Like when I read my old blogs which I wrote 3 yrs ago ,i saw my self how much far I came now.
